Master Lian Tzi Lotus Light 30th Anniversary Speech
This year marks the 30th anniversary for the Lotus Light Charity Society. Lotus Light was founded in 1993 here in the Downtown Eastside by Buddhist Grand Master Sheng-Yen Lu, and our many chapters worldwide engage in humanitarian aid, social assistance, and education to help those in need so that we can build a better tomorrow.
Charity is an expression of caring for others. Charity transcends race, gender, geography, and religion.
Our goals is
To help those who suffer in disasters, to offer immediate relief to them.
To help the struggling to receive education.
To help with the construction of homes, to offer shelter to those without.
To donate clothes to those who shiver without clothing.
To offer rice and food to those who are hungry.
We care for our community, and over the years, our charitable activities have made Lotus Light well known in the Downtown Eastside. I believe that through love and care, we can inspire each other to do our best to make our community better.
It is a blessing to be able to celebrate 30 years of charitable work. First, I would like to offer my deepest gratitude to our founder, Grand Master Lu, His Holiness. Next, I’d like to offer a heartfelt “thank you” to all levels of government, as well as our corporate and individual sponsors, and our volunteers. Everyone’s collective support is what gives Lotus Light the power to serve the community for as long as we have.
Thank you all for attending our 30th anniversary celebration and our Winter Charity Drive event, and I’d like to thank our special guests who has been very supportive all these years, including:
